How to Polish a Knife
Polishing is the last action when it comes to knife sharpening and can be done in many ways but what I really advise a novice is this. Provide hollow tablet, so that when it is strained through the skin looks like the stick in the arrow profile. It would be good to get a piece of good, old military belt or real thick skin. The skin is folded over and tightened, so that the wood snaps nicely onto the straight edges. From the bottom, the skin needs to be glued to the wood and nailed. Polishing surface needs to be evened by a fine metal file because even the smallest protrusion will blunt the blade.
Grinders always have some polishing paste around, so it would be wise to get some. If possible get the bluish-gray one – the all-around one. Before applying the paste, the skin should be soaked with fine machine oil or oil for weapon. Before placing the blade on the skin, the skin must be inspected with your fingers in an event there should be any hard dust grains or abrasives on it. A moment of carelessness can be very discouraging. A little grain of dust or other impurities can ruin the work of a few hours, so be careful and watch out.
